Beware, Muscle Cars World fans, here we present you Pete’s GT500 1967 Shelby Clone – Gun Metal Grey. Under the hood a beefy 427FE with a Genesis block can be found. Cosmetically the car is made to look like a GT500 with the long nose fibreglass bonnet, side scoops and badging. Some small changes have been made such as a delete of the door locks and door mirrors from an XB Falcon. The paint colour is a metallic charcoal grey which is funnily enough a standard Hyundai colour. All chrome work has been powdercoated black instead of polished.
bbin十大平台网Not only is the exterior immaculate; you could quite easily live in the interior of Pete’s Mustang. From the floor up everything has been restored or refurbished, plus those few little extras that can be found everywhere in this car. The carpet is a German cut pile with leather inserts, the seats are the standard seats re-trimmeed in Brazilian leather. To improve the seating position and give the extra feeling of being part of the car, the base of the seat has also been lowered.
All dash work is standard Shelby with the 140mph speedo and 8000rpm tacho which has been modified to suit the MSD coils. All of this is behind the beautiful woodgrain Shelby steering wheel. The radio looks like the standard Mustang FM radio, but has the ability to connect in an iPod to play music through – connected up to a pair Kicker speakers in the front.
Braking, suspension and handling are a big part of Pete’s Mustang to make it really driveable. All around are Varishock coilovers and 25mm Varishock swaybars. Additionally, to assist with the handling setup is a Rack and Pinion Steering conversion which Pete’s shop, Pete’s Classic Garage is well known for. A set of nickel plated Baer brakes (6 piston fronts) help pull up the car, especially after a stint of spirited driving through the twisties.
This amazing classic American muscle car has been featured in Australian Mustang and Ford Magazine June 2013, displayed in Mustang Roundup 2012, and won the Treasurer’s Award. We’re sure with the quality of this build there will be many more awards to come! Pete would like to thank his crew at Pete’s Classic Garage, Lukas Goon at C.O.M.E Racing, Ring Brothers USA and Grant Findlay at OzWild for their support and help throughout the build of his 1967 Mustang Fastback build. Video is available, too!
